This Women’s History Month, I am calling to ask you to prioritize passing paid family and medical leave and comprehensive, affordable childcare. I am heartened to see that President Biden lifted up the need for all families to have enough time to care for themselves and the ones they love in his State of the Union address. We now need Congress to act and pass a comprehensive, universal paid leave program and affordable child care to make the President’s vision a reality.

Working families, especially families of color and those led by women, need a government that takes the side of working people and guarantees the shared prosperity that we have earned, including family and medical leave and affordable child care
Having comprehensive paid leave means having an equitable program that:
Includes all forms of care: for oneself, a seriously ill family member, and a new child, so everyone is able to be with the ones they love when caregiving needs emerge.
Recognizes all families, whether they are multi-generational, LGBTQ, related by blood or affinity, everyone should be able to care for the people they love.
Allocates enough time and money for people to afford using the benefit.

Affordable child care will ensure that:
No family pays more than 7% of their income on child care, and many families can access care at no cost
Child care providers are paid a living wage
Families can find affordable, culturally-relevant, safe, child care no matter where they live - from providers of different types
