The U.S. is the only industrialized nation without paid family and medical leave. As a result, millions of workers are forced to choose between a paycheck and caring for their loved ones, a new baby, or their own health.

Congress can change this now. The newly reintroduced FAMILY Act would guarantee paid family and medical leave for every worker in America. Family Values @ Work and our movement network have been leading the charge, passing fourteen state-based paid family and medical leave programs. We know that everyone, no matter where they live, where they work, or who they love deserves comprehensive, job-protected paid leave.

Having comprehensive paid leave means having an equitable program that:

- Recognizes all families, whether they are multi-generational, LGBTQ, related by blood or affinity, should all be able to care for the people they love.
- Allocates enough time and money for people to afford using the benefit.
