I am calling on behalf of my family to ask you to fight for us. We can no longer accept a reality without paid family and medical leave and paid sick and safe days so I am calling to ask you to become a champion for comprehensive paid family and medical leave and paid sick and safe days. Working families, especially families of color and those led by women, need a government that takes the side of working people and that guarantees the shared prosperity that we have earned, including paid family and medical leave and paid sick and safe days.


Having comprehensive paid leave means having an equitable program that:

- Includes all forms of care: for oneself, a seriously ill family member or a new child, so everyone is able to be with the ones they love when caregiving needs emerge.
- Recognizes all families, whether they are multi-generational, LGBTQ, related by blood or affinity, should all be able to care for the people they love.
- Allocates enough time and money for people to afford using the benefit.

Paid Sick and Safes Days are essential because:

Millions of Americans working without paid sick and safe days face the impossible choice between caring for their health and that of their family, or keeping their paycheck and job.

This "choice" is no choice at all, and is entirely preventable through policy change. FV@W and our Network intimately understand the need for paid sick and safe days, as we've helped win paid sick and safe days, paid sick days, and paid time off policies in 62 locations across the country - helping more than 21 million workers focus on their time to care.

We have an opportunity to change this reality by passing the Healthy Families Act into law - this legislation would guarantee seven paid sick days a year to recover from illness, recover from sexual or domestic violence, access preventive care or look after a sick child or other family members. It is time to make paid sick and safe days a reality for all working families
