No matter where you work or what zip code you live in, you should be able to welcome a new child, care for a parent with dementia, a loved one with a serious medical condition or your own battle with COVID without facing financial disaster.

After decades of movement building and the successful implementation of paid family and medical leave in a number of states, we are finally at a moment to pass a comprehensive federal program. Join us in calling on Congress to meet this moment and pass a Build Back Better proposal via budget reconciliation with meaningful investments in paid leave to give us all Time to Care!

Dear Member of Congress, I recently watched the Time to Care film and urge you to watch the trailer at timetocarefilm.org. No matter where you work or what zip code you live in, you should be able to welcome a new child, care for a parent with dementia, a loved one with a serious medical condition or your own battle with COVID without facing financial disaster. As your constituent, I urge you to prioritize effective and permanent paid leave for all in the final Build Back Better proposal. Just like roads, bridges and broadband, paid leave and child care are essential for us to take care of our families, get back to work and stay employed. We need Congress to: >> Prioritize paid family and medical leave in the final Build Back Better package. >> Make sure it covers everyone. That means ensuring it is affordable for all, lets you return to the same or equivalent job, and recognizes all families. >> Make sure it’s long enough. Inadequate time to care will exclude those who need it the most. Women and workers of color are less likely to have temporary disability through their employer. Passing comprehensive paid leave will ensure that Americans will have time to care no matter who they are, who they love, or where they work. Now is the time for us to emerge a stronger nation, one that values all of us and opens the door to a new economy founded on caring, equity, and respect. Thank you.
